We are promoting empowerment and civic participation in the Latino and multicultural community to become active citizens of East Tennessee through education and social services. 


+ English as a Second Language (ESL)

  • We offer courses at basic and intermediate levels, including reading, writing, grammar, listening comprehension and oral communication.
    • Evening ESL classes at Centro Hispano (Mon - Thurs, 6-8 PM) childcare provided
    • Morning ESL classes at Centro Hispano (Tues + Wed, 10-12) childcare provided
    • Afternoon ESL Classes at Lonsdale Elementary (Tues + Thurs, 4:30-6:30 PM)

+ Language and Literacy

  • Our Spanish literacy courses allow Hispanic community members to complete their basic education in literacy, elementary and highschool education. This is made possible through a partnership with the Mexican Consulate.

+ High School Equivalency Credentials (HiSet, formerly GED) Prep Classes

  • The HiSet Prep program prepares students in five subjects (Math, Science, Social Science, Reading and Composition) to take the test and earn their diploma. It is unique in the fact that it is offered in Spanish.

+ Centro’s On Site After School Program

  • This program provides educational activities and workshops for the student’s children ranging from 3-12 years old. Activities include math and reading, Spanish language literacy, arts and crafts, story time, sing along music and much more.
    • Mon - Thurs, 6-8PM
    • Sponsored by United Way of Greater Knoxville

+ After School Program at Community Elementary Schools

  • Afterschool enrichment program, concentrating on homework and strengthening Math and reading skills.
    • Lonsdale Elementary: Mon + Thurs, 4:30-5:30 PM
    • Norwood Elementary: Mon - Thurs, 3:30-4:30 PM

+ Centro Goes to College Program

  • Monthly workshops providing tools for Hispanic students (usually first generation) to navigate post-secondary educational options.


+ Information and Referral Service in Spanish

  • Our Spanish hotline – (865) 522-0052 – Monday-Thursday 10AM-4PM and email inquiries to info@centrohispanotn.org. This service links Spanish speaking families to important information and services in the community.

+ General Interest Educational Workshops

    • Basic banking transactions, Personal loans, Budgeting, House and automobile insurance, Taxes, Consumer fraud, Asset protection, Investment protection

    • ITIN, rights and responsibilities, how to file taxes, legal citizenship, etc

+ Women’s Wellness Group

  • social group that offers a circle of trust to learn about topics concerning women. The objective of this group is to provide the necessary tools to Hispanic women for personal-development and well being. Our monthly meetings provide education, support, and empowerment through a holistic approach--addressing the psychological, social, physical, and emotional needs of the hispanic women in this community.
